What is fingerstyle guitar?
Fingerstyle guitar, also known as fingerpicking, is a style of guitar where you use your fingers to play a melody instead of a plectrum (pick). This style has become increasingly popular as it allows for more dexterity, variety, and offers the chance to play multiple strings at once, tapping and even to drum the wood of the guitar simultaneously.
What are the benefits of fingerstyle guitar?
The benefits of fingerstyle, compared to using a pick, include being able to play multiple notes simultaneously, to tap on the neck of the guitar for 'out of reach' notes, and even to drum the body of the guitar for simultaneous percussion, providing a 'fuller' band sound.
What is TM Fingerstyle?
TM Fingerstyle is the guitar education company of artist Tatum Marshall. The company specializes in teaching online fingerstyle guitar to students via video learning and a structured online course. TM Fingerstyle also produce a fingerstyle guitar blog, and 1 on 1 guitar coaching.
What will I learn on the TM Fingerstyle online guitar course?
The course is a specialist fingerstyle course designed to teach you the essentials: fingerstyle techniques, tapping (including 2-hand tapping and speed tapping), percussion techniques to drum at the same time as playing, rasgueado (flamenco) and much more. You will also learn iconic songs including Billie Jean, Thunderstruck, Seven Nation Army, and others.
Is it beginner-friendly?
You will need a basic understanding of how to make chords - tune the guitar - and have a basic familiarity with the instrument. The course is designed for people who are stuck, who have plateaued, and want to break through to a higher level.
Can I get feedback from Tatum?
Yes! The course uses VideoAsk, where you can upload a maximum of 4 videos for review. Film yourself playing and get real and personalized feedback from Tatum Marshall.
What do I need to get started?
You will need an acoustic guitar, internet connection and device to view the videos.
How long are the video lessons?
The course is structured for busy people: 15 short 5-15 minute videos with digestible instruction that gets straight to the good bits.
Can I start for free?
Yes. You can start the course for free and upon enrolling you will also access an E-book of printed lessons.
Is the full course a one-off payment?
Yes, if you choose to take the full course, it's a one-off payment to unlock all lessons, with no extra fees or monthly payments.
What device can I use to access the lessons?
You can use your laptop, tablet, computer or even mobile phone.
Is it good for advanced players?
This is a new skillset, you may find the first lessons easier, but you will quickly get to the point you are learning more.
Can I access the tabs?
Yes, I have provided a booklet which has guitar tabs and additional information.
Can I get my money back if I change my mind?
Yes, you can refund the course as long as the paid course, beginning from Lesson 2, has not been started or the E-book downloaded. For more information please check the Terms of Service.
